Therapy is a collaborative relationship between the therapist and the client. Together we identify your goals. For example, lessen symptoms of anxiety and depression or lessen the pain from past trauma or adverse childhood experiences or navigate the heartbreak of grief. Goals also may focus on positive experiences you want in your life. For example, increase self-esteem and self-worth or improve relationships with others. Once initial goals are identified, we begin a journey of healing and growth in a safe space using a combination of approaches and techniques specific to the client’s current situation and desired goals.
Couples therapy is more complex in that there are three entities: the two partners and the partnership. The client is the partnership, so the symptoms and goals identified are specific to the partnership; however, it is inevitable that we will address individual issues as we work toward achieving the goals for the relationship.

I meet every client where they are. Our consultation and initial therapy session will be a time of discovery and getting to know each other in a safe space. We are fantastically complex beings which means we experience this life in connection to our physical bodies, our mental and emotional patterns, and our learned behaviors. All of this takes place in relationship to others and to our environment. Because of this complexity, I use specific therapies and techniques that align with the needs of each client. I will pull from education and training in psychodynamic therapy, CBT, EMDR. relational therapy, narrative therapy, existential therapy and decades of personal life experiences that have given me a profound respect for both the uniqueness and similarities of my clients. For couples, I also incorporate approaches from Gottman, Imago and Perel, as well as others.

First, the fact that you are reading this website says you have the courage to find what does work for you. The therapeutic relationship is a critical component of the success of therapy, not because of personalities, but because of the need for trust, transparency, and commitment to allow yourself to be vulnerable, to be challenged, and to be supported with unconditional respect, no hidden agenda, and no negative judgments. Any guilt, shame or fear you may be holding onto has its own seat in the therapy session apart from the whole of you.

I am a private pay provider, and I do not accept insurance at this time. That may change in the future; however, private pay versus insurance means we are not subject to restrictions insurance companies require, such as limited number of sessions and diagnoses which may not meet the specific needs of each client. However, if you have a PPO plan with out-of-network benefits, you may be able to be reimbursed for a portion of the therapy fee after you meet your deductible. I can provide you with what is called a superbill to submit to your provider. I recommend you check with your insurance carrier to confirm their reimbursement requirements and policy.
